Hi, Sir!

I just discovered the Community blog for this Technopreneurship OJT thing! Let me put down my first post as a recap of what has been so far going on.

I started my OJT back in January 16, and reported to CAP College for my first day of work on that same date. My mentor is Mr. King Doromal, who is the President of CAP College... a related, but separate entity to CAP Education.

I have been given the task of setting up my very own marketing structure in order to sell specialized college DE (distance education) application forms for CAP College. My structure or organization, although employed by CAP, should be considered a separate entity from CAP - kind of like an agency that is employed to sell CAP College's new products.

They explained to me that since I was doing an ENTREPRENEURSHIP course that I should learn how to build a working organization, and that this is a sort of training ground for me to learn how to set up a marketing structure/organization, hire the people needed for it to operate, and begin operations. They also stated that my OJT hours would be counted whenever I either went to office or whenever I set out to do tasks related to building the organization (such as going out to recruit people or attempting to sell distance education applications in order to have a better grasp of selling and how to sell).

They granted me a office, right next to my superior Rey de Leon, who is the one who helps me in my day to day operations, since Mr. Doromal normally takes care of other more important things.

For the days that I come in to the office, I was given a bundy clock card that I punch in when I arrive and punch out when I leave. Since my task requires me to be out of the office more than inside it, I was requested to make daily reports every day so that it would be possible to count every hour I spent in creating this organization for me and my managers to operate.

Sometime last month, I was asked to take a business trip with the President to La Union in order to undergo sales training on the field with the President himself. We travelled from Makati to La Union, then stopped briefly in Caba, before proceeding all the way to Vigan making stops to sell the distance education applications to verious waitresses and bartenders working in small restaurants and canteens that dotted the highway. When we got to Vigan, we inspected the CAP Building there, and I was able to speak with the Division Head of Sales in the Vigan region. After that, we headed back to Caba to rest, and left again early in the morning back to Manila.

As of now, I have four managers that have signed up ad are attending the training session I scheduled and set up on April 3, Thursday. The training will be a whole day affair, from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. After training, my managers will be given the tasks of recruiting their sales people and once we have enough to operate, we begin operations.

During this OJT period, I also came up with a new way to sell these distance education applications in an effort to innovate the selling procedure of CAP College. Instead of concentrating on person-to-person sales relationships, I, along with a friend and call center owner, Carlos Campa, discussed the possibilities of selling distance education in bulk to call centers for their agents.

We realized that with CAP College's present scheme, we have an advantage over other schools offering distance education that allows for us to offer a partnership with various call centers all over the country in order to educate the call center agents, who are mostly just high school graduates who have no time or money to go to college. The call center would also make 20% commission on sales, effectively beig recognized as the "sales person", and making everybody in the equation a winner. CAP College sells their product, the call centers earn money on commission and elevate their company value by educating their employees, and the employees graduate college WHILE WORKING, paying tuition through salary deductions.

Graduation is near! That is why I am determined to do any task that is given to me to finish this term. I know I can do all these as long as I focus and practice consistency. For I know, that is what I lack as a person. I tend to get bored easilly especially on a routine schedule. But really, fortitude pays off.

I still don't miss my hours or OJT days because I will be leaving the country on Feb 18 (personal reasons)- will be out for 2 weeks. So, I know that I would have to make up for my absences. Good thing that I was allowed to have an excused pass. But I will make sure that when I get back, I will still have that focus and determination to finish everything.

I just want to share a part of my experience in my work. I became one of those interviewers of the applicants who wanted to work in Nestle. (because this company provides manpower to Nestle). I was able to talk to different kinds of people. Also, able to read many resumes. After interviewing, of course I had to grade them. I had a hard time giving a low grade to those people who dint answer quite well. Looking at their background, some of them came from a poor family. So, of course, I want them to have a job... After a while, I got the feel of it. I just said to myself that I need to just do my work firmly and fairly. I just thought of the reason why the company is hiring. It is because they want to have quality employees. So, my job is to rate what is seen. Because this will affect the business later on.

 <dc:subject>OJT marco</dc:subject>

it is now on the third week but I'm going to post my second week just now. sori sir... last week just been so tiring. from the OJT hours and my class in between the hours. well anyway, last week, I've been with the company CEO, Mr. Ed Alimagno. He's most of the time busy but I'm lucky to be with him from time to time. He is actually my mentor but since most of the time hes out, I am delegated to the company excecutive manager, Mrs, Almira Pascual. Anyway, going back to the hours with my mentor... he showed me 3 of the company's factories. The first one which is the hog farm located at canlubang. The second factory is the place where you see the food processing division (garlic flakes). This is beside Nestle Corp. This second factory I went to has also an office where I will be staying most of the time w/ Mrs. Pascual, the executive manager. The Third place we went to is the Accounting office of the company. beside this, you will also see the storage of the "feeds".

In the office, I was briefed with everything about the company. At first, I had a hard time understanding these things because the company has so many divisions (group of companies)... but after internalizing, I managed to put everything in my mind. But because of these many companies, Mrs. Pascual made me choose at least two. So, I choose the ALIW ALEXIS FARMS which includes the hog division, scrap, and the food processing.. also, i choose the AEI which includes manpower services to Nestle.

I've been briefly oriented with the business the whole week. I've been internalizing everything that was said to me by my mentor and my 2nd mentor. I've also been familiar with how the business moves specifically but I was told to make these confidential... overall, I am happy that I am able to learn so much even though it is only the 2nd week. It is different being outside seeing the real business rather than just staying at the classroom reading textbooks. I am very observant on how Mr. Alimagno moves around his business checking if everything is alright and how deals with different kind of people. I really look up to him because someday I also want to be like him. A true blooded Entrepreneur! It is hard to explain but if you get to be with him, you'll know. There is so much more to learn in this OJT that I am 100% sure that it will help me when I am to put up my own.

Anybody can be an Entrepreneur, even those people who didn't take up Entrepreneurship in school can be one. And to be one, you should think like one. Thinking out of the box would be one example of describing it. You have to be imaginative, creative... able to think of ideas that would accumulate money by just using resources around you.

Being an Entrepreneur should be able to take risks... caluculated ones.

An Entrepreneur should know and study his/her surroundings... knowing what people want or need and be able to give it to them.

Be able to make the money work for you and not you work for the money. In that way, you should keep on investing on something, and not just keeping all your accumulated money in the bank.

An Entrepreneur should not forget his/her christian values... to have a legitimate business. And be able to help the society...the poor... and not get into something that will affect others.

An Entrepreneur should be able to deal with all kinds of people. Being good in the streets. Having high negotiating skills
