just a couple of thoughts..
-what makes Starbucks Starbucks?
-what does it have that make people want more?
-is their coffee really that good?
-is it the relaxing and comfy ambiance?
-or just a place to be seen?
it just so happens that i spot fellow La Sallians there everytime i go to Paseo during weekdays.. mere coincidence?

in my opinion, most people go to starbucks just to make a statement or simply to prove that they are in with the rest of the crowd. i think you guys know what i mean. hehe. when starbucks first came out in paseo, their coffee sucked bad but still people filled the lines and flocked to starbucks. i've been drinking coffee for about 3 years now and i can say that on their first month even instant coffee tasted better. however, they eventually got better so i guess their coffee is exceptional at best. the best and cheapest coffee that i have ever bought would have to be in naga city for about 20 or 30 pesos (that's in bicol btw).
for me, my family and i used to go to starbucks atleast a 1-3 times a month to spend family time. its a great place to talk, relax, and drink coffee... although their coffee isn't worth the price.
they do have some great desserts though.
Starbucks doesn't give me that feel to lounge and make kwento. The place can get too crowded and noisy most of the time.
We just head out to Ponderosa. There are a couple of gardens and small parks there to let you lounge, have picnic and relax.
@jp
Well, well, well, towel. 8] I am one of those people who frequent Starbucks, in Paseo. Not because of their coffee or their desserts. It's because wala akong matambayan! I have long breaks (3 to 5 friggin' hours) so kung papipiliin kung saan ako tatambay: school caf o Starbucks? Starbucks na'di ba? I really don't patronize their coffee, but there were few times I bought mocha java chip frapp just to justify my stay there. Syempre nakakahiya naman 'di ba? Tatambay ako dun ng isang oras tapos wala man lang ako bibilhin! But most of the time, I go there with friends with money! Haha! That's an advice! 8] Either they will treat me with a frapp or help me justify my stay.
(hehe! aminado akong may account ako dun.) at sa Friendster, parang nagiging venue na ito for popularity competition and online prostitution. na-notice ko lang ha, MOST of the people who go to Starbucks would not miss to take a photo of themselves, with their face kissing a sweating cup of frapp. anung gagawin pagkatapos? ipo-post sa Friendster and they would make it as their default pic, and a caption saying: Starbucks afternoon, or me and my frapp, or i love this, et cetera. So konyo! wahaha! mga posero!
Just my thoughts. Pero, something weird with coffee shops, nakaka-relax yun ambiance nila. Must be the aroma of the coffee. Anyways, Starbucks (and other expensive coffee shops) is just like another brand of make-up that people put-on to feel better about themselves. Nakakalungkot man sabihin, maraming posero sa mundo.
I'm not generalizing. Basta! Ang bottomline: MAS MASARAP ANG KAPE KO!
nothing better than a glass of water.. =]
Your comments on Starbucks are indications that DLSC students are quite discerning and analytical. The person who says DLSC is a poor imitation of DLSU-M is either just testing or is really out of touch with reality. It may be of good information to the person that the College of Saint Benilde is surpassing DLSU-M as the school of choice for employment principally because their course offerings are more globally oriented. DLSC is also poised in the same direction. Newspaper headline some days ago mentiions that the Phil. is poised to overtake India in the Business Process Outsourcing area. I tend to believe this by just looking at the number of Indian businessmen or other nationalities in the lobbies of Makati hotels. I have spoken to some of them and they tend to validate this. Even at our own backyard, 'AYALA LAND BEGIN ITS BIGGEST LAND DEVELOPMENT'
1,600 hectares called Nuvali is already starting which is centered on BPO. Going back to Starbucks, it was never positioned for just coffee. It was more positioned for a conversation and interaction place. Coffee is just an instrument for this objective. Why is it some of you said the coffee was not good but you continue to go back? There is something about the place that attracts some of you. Probably because you see it in every corner of Manila (market saturation) which creates an impression. Mercury Drug is doing the same thing. For me I try to avoid it since I find the coffee expensive but somehow its top of mind with the people I do business with. Frankly, I like the Kapeng Barako at Kanin Club.
tara na sa CSB!
