Most of us doesn't know a lot about microsoft excel, for some they new it as a simple spreadsheet where numbers can be placed. We must be thankful for having this kind of software. Why? there are many benefits and features that excel may provide most especially to those people who are in the business industry and for all the decision makers in business. I used to familiarized myself with excel becuase it is part of my course. Most of my major subjects required us to do a lot using this software, this is where we made our feasibility study, matrix, charts, cases and many more.

For those who are still trying to understand or for those who want to start understanding excel this site may be very useful. HERE

Who knows, you may achieve EXCELLENCE using EXCEL...

in obsolete skills, i chose to talk about how to use a manual transmission. below is a picture of a manual transmission. in using one, first you have to know what it is, as what i posted on google docs, the simplest way of explaining what a manual transmission is is that it gives the driver freedome to change the gears at any given time. there is a clutch which the driver uses inorder to get the car in the desired gear, there are a total of three pedals in a manual transmission car as compared to two pedals in an automatic transmission vehicle. to get started on how to use it, first start the car but when you do, make sure the car in is "neutral" (this is when the stick is in the middle and not in any gear). after you have started the car, place it in first gear by stepping on the clutch and placing the stick on the first gear slot which is the slot to the upper left (assuming you are at a full stop), slowly release the clutch and as you do that slowly step on the accelerator pedal to get the engine revs up so that the car can move. once you have reached optimal revs, you may now change gears using the same process, which is stepping on the clutch and placing the stick on the second gear slot which is usualy the lower left slot, and so on. see the diagram below to learn more about how a manual transmission looks and works. see the gears and how they are fitted in the housing.

I was unable to attend the online class because when i got to school, another class was using the comlab.

based on my understanding of cultural information systems, it is important because it saves the user effort in having to reseach a desired topic. with cultural information systems, all you have to do is type in a keyword, and just like that, the user may access information about the topic he/she is searching for.

cultural information system, aside from helping the user find desired information, has other purposes aswel, like: keeping people conected to one another. i can also say that for me, a cultural information system is also a social networking site, where in people are linked with one another, and may access his/her page.

This case is to analyze information with googledoc. It's too hard especially if you're new in using Excel.

This is not too hard for me, because i have experience in pre-class of BUSCOMP.

Mike and I helped each other, share and published it here

this is my answer for task.

1. Mr. Milligan wants a markup of at least 25% on all items. which items have markups less than 25%?

     A00730    6' x 10' Cedar Garden Hut  =  18.94%
     A00750    6' x 6' Cedar Garden Hut  =  8.04%
     A00620    12' Cedar Octagon Gazebo  =  15.76%
     A00810    6' x 20' Covered Bridge   =  16.75%

2. The lowest of dollars, which itme has the lowest sales sales?

     A00930    4' Windmill  =  $9,243.99

3. in terms of dollars, what were Mr Milligan's biggest selling items last year? identify the top five.

     A00410    8' x 10' Aluminum Barn  =  $563,143.00
     A00610    10' Octagon Cedar Gazebo  =  $449,998.50
     A00310    12' x 8' Double Door Aluminum Shed  =  $393,949.94
     A00750    6' x 6' Cedar Garden Hut  =  $382,213.56
     A00520    3' x 7' Picnic Table  =  $269,991.00

      $ 4,391,444.90

5. what is the company's annual gross profit?

      $ 1,076,270.01

Test Your Design

1. For each inventory item, Mr. Milligan wants to know what percentage of the company's total annual sales generated.

Column N

2. What is the gross margin per unit for each inventory item? Which inventory item(s) has the

largest gross margin per unit? Least?

The higest is the 10" Octagon Cedar Gazebo, and the least is the Wagon planter.

Sir Joel gave us a case.. that we supposed to do, and obviously, its quite hard especially if you're new in using Excel. Fortunately, we had previous course that already taught us how to use excel, so we finished it in a shorter time. Although we didn't finish it on the 1:30 hour session, we finished this  in about a day or two.

The case is quite hard because it's too many. Luckily the formulas were there coz' if not, we might've had a really hard time finishing that up...

By the way, this is the case that we did..

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pvRmkYnKo3HwOLrLvO__eCQ

you can just go into that address so that you can see what we did.

We have computed for the Cost of Goods sold, Annual sales, Gross profit, Mark-Up based on Costs etc. there are also some questions that wanted to know the specifications of what've we computed/done. I"m quite amazed that this case is very helpful and it's like a real business world thing! As if you really have a boss and you must do what he exactly told you. this is very amazing!!

Hazel and I just posted our answers to inventory analysis worksheet (Milligan's Backyard Storage Units). You can also see the spreadsheet that we've made on google docs by this link : http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=ptV0_OqGyKS-5dB4YVjboLA ... Here are the steps and solutions we used in order to get the answers.

In order to get the maximum and minumum unit costs and sales price, we used the max and min functions of excel. In number 1, for us to get the items or products that have a markup based on cost below 25%, we rearranged the amounts by ranking it from highest to lowest. We did the same procedure for number 2 to get the item with the lowest sales. In number 3, we also used the ranking procedure to get the top 5 biggest selling items. We ranked the amount of annual sales together with the descriptions. To get the total annual sales of the items for the year, we used the sum function. we used the same procedure to get the annual gross profit.

On the part of Test Your Design, we answered number 1 by dividing annual sales of each item to total annual sales in order to get the annual sales percentage. With number 2, we manually look at the highest and lowest gross margin ratio. We used the color blue and red to represent the highest and lowest gross margin ratio respectively. In order to get the answer on number 3, we just used the sum function to get the answer close to $100,000.
